Miami reportedly made unexpected as they have come Agreed terms with Jeremiah Smith on $55.8 million deal of which…

A Monday six-pack of Miami Hurricanes notes: ▪ Alonzo Highsmith, who departed the Miami Hurricanes football team to take a position in the front office of the New England Patriots earlier in the spring, left UM amicably with the coaches and administration, expressing optimism about the program’s future. He remarked, “These guys are ready to win,” last week at UM’s Pro Day. “At Miami, they wish to compete and leave their own mark.

“The talent is evident. We possess greater talent. They are aware that it won’t be simple. They must come and participate. They’re all older children. They’re also adhering to this culture and Mario [Cristobal’s] direction. Every day is about competitiveness. Why should Canes supporters be optimistic? “I believe that Canes supporters ought to be content given what the players expected of them. It all begins with the players’ expectations that they would perform well. Expectations are all right—mine, yours, and the fans’—but none are greater than what the players believe of themselves. He thinks highly of Cam Ward, the new quarterback for UM.

“Ward is a different guy,” Highsmith said. “He’s brought a lot of humility and leadership to the program. We already know he’s a good quarterback, but I like the fact he’s a better human being than quarterback.” He also likes how the lines have been addressed, with UM particularly skilled and deep at defensive end. “You know coach [Alex] Mirabal will have the offensive line [playing well],” he said. ▪ NFL-bound defensive lineman Branson Deen, who spent a year at UM after transferring from Purdue, predicts second-year end Rueben Bain will be an NFL “starter right away” when he leaves the Canes in a couple years and will be a “double digit sack guy” in the NFL.
