C.J. Stroud Reportedly signed $34.8 million with Kyle McCord Transferring from Ohio State Adding some potential…

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Kyle McCord’s entry into the transfer portal caught former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud off guard more than anyone else. The Houston Texans star, who had been McCord’s backup for two years, was about to wrap up his Rookie of the Year campaign when the backup left after one season as a starter.

“I hit him up and we had a couple conversations and everything made sense on what he was thinking,” Stroud said after Ohio State’s Pro Day, which he said he attended to support former teammates.

“Man, sometimes you outgrow places. That was, I believe, his thing. He simply became bored with everything happening on here and wanted to see other things. And that’s God’s purpose for his life, as well as what you sometimes have to do.

In addition to leading the Big Ten in yards per attempt, McCord also ranked second in terms of efficiency rating, touchdown passes, and completion percentage. However, the majority of those figures fell short of what Stroud and his predecessors, Justin Fields and Dwayne Haskins, accomplished in their professional careers.

According to Stroud, McCord “held his own” by distributing the ball, utilizing the cloud cover, and giving Marvin Harrison Jr. more attention. He did, however, concede that the quarterbacks for OSU will always be evaluated based on their performance against Michigan. Having lost both of his fantastic passing seasons versus the competitors, he is the greatest person to realize that.
