All that work on defense in free agency has eaten up a lot of cap space, and at this point in the offseason it is time to get creative to squeeze every bit of cap space possible out of your roster.

Houston is doing just that, according to Field Yates of ESPN, who has reported that Houston has restructured guard Shaq Mason’s contract by converting his base salary into a signing bonus and creating another $6.4 million in cap space.Houston currently sits with around $18 million in cap space remaining, according to Spotrac.It remains to be seen what they’ll do with the added space, but the move makes you wonder if the team had a few misses this offseason due to not having a little more room to work with.Houston reportedly just missed out on Keenan Allen in a trade and had major interest in former 49ers DL Arik Armstead before he signed with the Jaguars.Restructuring Mason didn’t create a ton of room, but it would be enough to pursue other DL or WR options still available, such as veterans Odell Beckham Jr. or Hunter Renfrow at receiver, or they could look to fill a need at safety with Quandre Diggs or Justin Simmons.Mason started 17 games at guard in his first season blocking for Stroud after signing
