Woods, McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley founded TGL, which stands for Tomorrow’s Golf League, in partnership with the PGA in 2022. The season will be made up of 15 two-hour matches played virtually and inside an arena—players will tee off from real grass tee boxes but play will largely take place virtually as balls are tracked via simulator screens across custom-designed, virtual holes. Once teams are about 50 yards from the virtual hole, play will switch to live-action and each hole will be finished in a 22,475-square-foot short game complex. The short game zone will transform between each hole using a 41-yard-wide turntable to rotate the green, motors that will morph the topography and three bunkers that will change approach angles. Each team will play five regular season matches per season.

Six teams will play in the league in the first season, although only four have been formally introduced: Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Los Angeles Golf Club and Jupiter Links Golf Club— the team owned by billionaire David Blitzer and Tiger Woods that will also include Woods as a player. The leagues’ other to teams will be based out of New York and San Francisco, though no team rosters have been announced. In total, 24 players have committed to play in the league, including Woods and McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott and Xander
