Bills sign safety Mike Edwards to a $55.8 million Deal Of  3-year contract, adding potential starter to…

New York’s ORCHARD PARK (AP) — In January, safety Mike Edwards assisted the Chiefs in ending the Bills’ season for the third time in four postseason games. Now, he hopes to contribute to a redesigned secondary that will help Buffalo advance.

The fact that the fifth-year player, who signed a one-year contract with the Bills on Wednesday, has two Super Bowl victories under his belt also helps.

During a Zoom conference call, Edwards stated, “I know the AFC has been through Kansas City for the past few years, but I see it from afar—Buffalo has been one win away.” “They have a fantastic quarterback and team. There is hardly much left. I believe I can assist those folks in whatever way I can.

After opening with the same starting duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer for the last seven seasons, Buffalo is starting over in the offseason, and one of their top priorities is safety. After being cut by Buffalo, Poyer signed with AFC East foe Miami, while Hyde, a free agent, is thinking about retiring.

Edwards stated, “Those guys were the standard; they were two of the best safeties in the league.” “Just attempting to take that on, build upon it, and arrive at work prepared to work and pursue that.”

With Taylor Rapp, who returned for a second season after being re-signed to a three-year contract two weeks ago, Edwards will have the opportunity to establish a new starting partnership.

Standing at five feet ten inches and 205 pounds, Edwards played in 17 games, including five starts, for the Chiefs last season, and recorded one interception, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown return. In addition, he started all four postseason games, including Kansas City’s divisional round 27–24 victory over Buffalo.

Edwards played his first four seasons in Tampa Bay, where he concluded his rookie year in 2019 with a Super Bowl victory as the Buccaneers overcame the Chiefs to win the championship.
