Apple signs a $200 million contract with Matthew Hamachek, the director of the New England Patriots documentary…

After the popularity of director Matthew Hamachek’s Patriots docuseries, Apple decided to sign him on a first-look agreement.

Director Matthew Hamachek has agreed to join Apple despite the popularity of his docuseries The Dynasty: New England Patriots.

The story was first by Deadline on Wednesday afternoon.

“The streamer struck a first-look deal with director Matthew Hamachek,” Deadline wrote. “It is the latest first-look deal for the tech company following similar deals with the likes of David & Jessica Oyelowo, The Morning Show’s Mimi Leder, and Black Bird co-creator Dennis Lehane.”

It also notes that Hamachek directed Tiger, an HBO documentary released several years ago about legendary golfer Tiger Woods.

The Dynasty, a 10-episode series this year about the amazing nearly 20-year run the NFL team had, was directed by Hamachek. Naturally, the squad captained by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick produced some of the best teams in recent memory and won six Super Bowls.

In any case, a significant criticism of the documentary was its failure to address proprietor Robert Kraft’s “massage parlor fiasco.” Given that he avoided discussing any people’s romantic connections or lives in the documentary, Hamachek told Variety’s Stephen Rodrick that this was done in an indiscriminate manner.

It’s interesting to consider Hamachek’s choice to join Apple. This may indicate that Apple is planning more on the docuseries front, even as Netflix, HBO, and ESPN all keep up their relentless efforts. ESPN also has its highly regarded 30 for 30 series.
