TROY, Ala. (WTVY) – A Troy Trojans wide receiver, who during the last year emerged as one of the top pass catchers in the nation, recently gave an inside look into a moment that turned his life upside down.

Chris Lewis enjoyed a successful 2023 campaign on the gridiron, with his sophomore season seeing him record 735 yards receiving with 10 touchdowns. Those stats saw him ranked as the best receiver in the nation with an average of around 23 yards per catch, as well as the 16th best in the country for touchdown receptions.

Add that on top of the spectacular ways Lewis was able to gain numbers like that on the field, like his three-touchdown game against South Alabama earning him the No. 1 and 2 plays on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays, and it’s hard to deny that he was performing in a way that had him feeling on top of the world.

However, a nagging injury would hit Lewis during the early weeks of the season and would subsequently get worse as the year went on. What he thought could have been just a hamstring injury or fluid build-up, turned out to be something much more hard to wrap your head around: bone cancer.
