Browns Head Coach In Tears As He receives A Sack Letter From Management Due To….

Next season, Baker Mayfield, the former quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, might have a familiar face in his offensive coordinator role.

Alex Van Pelt, the former offensive coordinator for the Browns who was unexpectedly fired by Cleveland at the end of the season, has been interviewed by a number of teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Van Pelt had a job interview on Monday, January 30, but the Bucs have not made a decision about the hire. The previous season, Dave Canales oversaw offensive playmaking for Tampa Bay before taking a position as head coach with the Carolina Panthers.

With Mayfield likely to return as quarterback for the Bucs next season, Van Pelt is an intriguing prospect. He spent two seasons coaching Mayfield, the former first overall pick, in Cleveland. This included Mayfield’s incredible 2020 season, in which he passed for 3,563 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

In 2020, Van Pelt joined Kevin Stefanski’s team as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. But since Van Pelt did not call the plays, it was not his usual setup. Stefanski took it upon himself to call the plays when he arrived.

Van Pelt stated in 2020, “Playing against him for the last two years [with the Bengals], you see the type of competitor he is.” All the qualities you seek for in a great player are there—a player that is passionate, loves the game, and is like that on the field.

During the 2021 season, Mayfield struggled with a shoulder ailment, which negatively impacted his situation in Cleveland. In the 2022 offseason, Mayfield was traded to the Panthers in exchange for Deshaun Watson. With Mayfield healthy, Van Pelt might get an opportunity to contribute to what has been a career comeback in Tampa Bay.
