Spurs have been linked with a number of centre-backs in recent months and Gomez is now the latest name to be added to the list.

The Mail say the north London club view the 27-year-old as an ideal option due to his pace, Premier League experience, domestic status and versatility. According to the report, Spurs believe the Catford-born defender would be open to a move back to London.

However, it has been revealed that the Lilywhites now fear Kostas Tsimikas’ latest clavicle injury against Arsenal could prompt the Reds to block the sale of the England international next month. With the Greece international joining Andrew Robertson and Joel Matip on the treatment table, it has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp will have to rely on Gomez in the coming weeks, which could mean Tottenham will have to look elsewhere. Gomez would undoubtedly fit in perfectly in Postecoglou’s backline, but Liverpool are unlikely to make any bids for the 27-year-old in the off-season. It’s a deal Tottenham could return to next summer.
