EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings will have another pick to work with in next month’s NFL Draft.

The league awarded the Vikings the No. 97 overall pick (third round) as compensation for quarterback Kirk Cousins signing with the Atlanta Falcons last offseason.

The NFL began awarding compensatory picks after an amendment was made to the 2020 collective bargaining agreement, according to the league, to promote equal employment opportunities within the teams. The picks given out range between the third and seventh rounds, depending on the value of the player who was lost in free agency. Since Cousins started 14 games for Atlanta, the Vikings received a higher pick.

Minnesota currently has four picks in the upcoming draft — one in the first round (No. 24), the third-round compensatory pick (No. 97) and two fifth-rounders (No. 139 and No. 160).

This year’s draft will be held in Green Bay, starting April 24 and going through April
