Michigan Have Made unexpected move as They React out to the first four Transfer Portal Targets…

Late last week, word leaked out that Lou Esposito will be joining the Michigan Wolverines as their new defensive line coach. Sherrone Moore didn’t take long to take over for Greg Scruggs, who had quit eight days earlier after being arrested for OWI. During his time in Kalamazoo, Esposito analyzed and recruited players, including Braden Fiske, who was ranked No. 1,590 overall on the 247Sports composite. Illinois State was the only other offer he received after graduating from high school. Fiske was a standout in the MAC at WMU, amassing 148 total stops, 27.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one blocked kick before transferring to Florida State for his final season of collegiate football.

Fiske’s draft value increased significantly during his one year at Tallahassee, when he was named to the third team of the AP All-American and the second team of the ACC. However, none of that would have happened had Esposito not recruited Fiske in the first place.

Esposito traveled to Michigan via Memphis, where he spent around two months as the team’s defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Western Michigan as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. Esposito has previously worked at two other smaller universities in Michigan, Davenport and Ferris State.

If you’re from a minor football program only, you might be curious about Esposito’s recruiting style. He certainly has an eye for potential, as evidenced by the fact that he helped sign a number of players who were unappreciated as high school graduates but eventually grew into prospects of the professional level.
