Richard Fitts, a pitching prospect for the Boston Red Sox, has been accruing frequent flier miles in the lead-up to the season.

The right-hander traveled to Texas with the Red Sox to play their last two exhibition games against the Rangers after leaving Fort Myers. Fitts started the Tuesday afternoon game and was able to hold his own against major league batters. In the victory, the 24-year-old threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up just two singles and a walk while getting rid of three Rangers. He arrived in Worcester the following day to begin his Triple-A career.

“Being in the big-league stadium was a lot of fun, for sure,” Fitts remarked to NESN.com on Wednesday during WooSox Media Day.

Not only did Fitts face big-league hitters, he took the ball against the reigning World Series champions. Stars such as Marcus Semien and Corey Seager were in the lineup against the Red Sox, giving Fitts extra momentum to compete.

Fitts continued, “Everyone has embraced me with open arms.” “I’m happy to be here. I’m starting to develop fond of the color red. A little more of it is on me.

Fitts moved in with friend and fellow pitcher Garrett Whitlock during spring training, and he quickly adjusted to his new teammates. Furthermore, the right-hander joined the team during a pitching change that included new leaders including director of pitching Justin Willard, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, and pitching coach Andrew Bailey. Willard has developed into a valuable resource for Fitts.
