SIGNING MATT NELSON BY GIANTS
Matt Nelson, an offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, is an unrestricted free agent signed by the New York Giants.

Following the 2019 NFL Draft, the 28-year-old, 6’7″, 315-pound Nelson was first signed by the Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent. Nelson played his debut season as a member of the Lions Practice Squad. His ankle injury kept him out of action for the majority of the 2023 season, placing him on Injured Reserve. Nelson has made 14 starts in 43 regular-season games overall, 11 of which were in 2021. He has played right tackle the most of the time.

The Giants have re-signed free agent wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. The Giants chose not to tender Hodgins as a potential restricted free agent, making him an unrestricted free agent. The contract is reportedly a 1-year deal.

Isaiah Hodgins did not enjoy the kind of season that was anticipated of him in 2023, following his successful and dependable late-season acquisition in 2022. Despite starting nine of the 17 games, Hodgins only managed 21 receptions for 230 yards and three touchdowns by the end of the season.

Early in November 2022, the Giants claimed Hodgins off of the Buffalo Bills’ waiver list. He saw action right away, participating in eight regular-season games and making five starts. At the end, he had four touchdowns and 351 yards from 33 catches. Hodgins caught eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings playoff game.

Hodgins was originally drafted in the 6th round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bills. He spent most of his rookie season on Injured Reserve and most of 2021 on the Practice Squad. Before coming to the Giants, Hodgins only played in two regular-season games, catching four passes for 41 yards.
