Nickel Cornerback Taron Johnson have Declined $49 million Contract Extension…

After losing safety Micah Hyde to free agency and parting ways with safety Jordan Poyer, the Buffalo Bills have a large hole at the back of their secondary. However, they may be working on a successor right now.

On March 18, Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report revealed that this week the Bills would be receiving a visit from free agency safety Julian Blackmon. In the event that he signs with the Bills, the former Indianapolis Colts safety, who just finished his greatest season of his career, might be destined for a starting position.

However, Schultz reports that Blackmon is attracting a lot of interest from the open market and has “several” other suitors, so landing him might not be an easy assignment.

Despite losing Hyde and Poyer, two defensive pillars for the Bills, SI.com’s Anthony Licciardi predicted that Blackmon’s flexibility would enable him to step up and cover for them.

“Blackmon could easily take over Hyde’s position in head coach Sean McDermott’s defense as the free safety. His adaptability, though, might be a benefit for Buffalo, who might use him in the box more often than some might think, according to Licciardi.

According to Licciardi, Blackmon has demonstrated his ability to switch between secondary positions while he has been in Indianapolis.

“Blackmon saw a more pronounced change in 2022 after seeing career-high snap counts in the box and at slot corner.” Compared to 9.3% of his snaps in the box in 2022, Blackmon devoted 48.3% of his snaps to free safety. These figures changed to 31.2 percent and 47.4 percent, respectively, last year.
