Allard Has Reportedly Terminate His $15 million with the Phillies due to once promising career to join…

In order to get ready for the 2024 season, the Philadelphia Phillies are still cutting players, with Opening Day just over a week away. Seven players were sent back to the minors in the most recent roster maneuvers; the most prominent of them was Kolby Allard, a former first-round selection.

With great hopes, Allard was chosen by the Atlanta Braves with the 14th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. But after entering the major leagues in 2018, he hasn’t even come close to realizing his full potential. Allard has spent time as both a starter and a reliever during his six seasons with the Braves and Texas Rangers. He has a 9-24 record with a 6.10 ERA and 1.43 WHIP.

Allard was hoping to join a championship-chasing team and reinvigorate his once promising career after inking a one-year, $1 million deal with the Phillies this winter. Given his versatility as a pitcher and his prior considerable MLB experience, one could assume that he may be a good depth starting pitcher for the Phillies going into 2024, or he could even compete for a job in the bullpen as a reliable long-man.

But Allard had seen very little combat thus far this spring, and when he did, he had trouble maintaining command and control. He pitched just 5 2/3 innings in three appearances, giving up three runs on six hits, four walks, and six strikeouts for a 3.18 ERA and 1.76 WHIP. His poor performance in the few opportunities he had to improve his game probably sealed his fate of beginning the season in the minor leagues. Now that the Phillies have acquired Lehigh Valley IronPigs as a Triple-A affiliate, Allard will continue his quest to regain notoriety.
