NFL Analyst Has Harsh Criticism For The Bears, “Says They Fumbled The Justin Fields Trade.”

If there was one aspect of the game that fans would find disagreeable, it would be the fact that the Chicago Bears parted with their franchise quarterback for so little. Anyone would tell you that a Day 3 pick is a very small cost for a player of Fields’ caliber. The trade of Justin Fields to make room for Caleb Williams’ inevitable arrival was not surprising. The Pittsburgh Steelers might have been an interesting destination since they also recently acquired Russell Wilson, but it makes sense given how uncertain Mr. Unlimited is at quarterback.

According to Daniel Bates of The Spun, the team passed up the opportunity to trade Justin Fields to a more seasoned team in favor of sending him to Pittsburgh, where he will be in a better overall position.

As Bates puts it: The Bears received another offer with higher draft capital from a team with an established starter, according to a source, but they decided to send Fields to Pittsburgh in the hopes of placing the 25-year-old in a position to continue his development — initially as Russell Wilson’s backup and eventually as a starter. This is according to a report from ESPN’s Courtney Cronin and Brooke Pryor.

If this story is to be believed, the team sought to guarantee that Fields was placed in the greatest possible situation to start right away.
