Eagles Fletcher Cox as he announces his retirement from the NFL.

PHILADELPHIA: Fletcher Cox, who spent 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, is retiring, meaning that the organization and its supporters have lost another legend.

In an Instagram message directed at Eagles supporters on Sunday, the most decorated defensive lineman in Eagles history declared his retirement.

“April 26, 2012, was a special day that changed my life forever when Andy Reid called me to say I would be drafted by the Eagles.”

After spending 12 seasons with the Eagles, Cox was selected to four First Teams All Pro teams, was nominated to six Pro Bowls, and helped the team win the Super Bowl in 2018.

The all-time great claims that he gave his choice to retire a lot of thought.

“I threw my all into this team and this community. I have no idea what lies ahead for me, but I do know that I will always be appreciative of my time spent in Philadelphia and working with the Eagles. “Go, Birds!”

Cox thanked everyone who had an impact on his career in his tearful announcement, beginning with his coaches and staff who “helped me grow not just as a player, but as a young man into the man I am today.”

Then, in addition to his late brother Shaddrick, a special thank you was given to his mother, sisters, and girlfriend for all of their support.

“Everything I accomplished since your passing has been for you.”

Cox’s teammates Eagles, with whom he had played for years, came next on the list.

“I will always treasure our brotherhood. We forged lifelong memories together.”
