Kendrick Bourne has agreed on a three-year deal to return to the New England Patriots that could be worth up to $33 million

Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, whose agent Henry Organ of Disruptive Sports told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday, has agreed to a three-year contract that may be worth up to $33 million to rejoin the New England Patriots. A $4.2 million signing bonus is part of the deal, an ESPN source said. Bourne, who turns 29 on August 4, is recuperating from an Oct. 29 loss to the Miami Dolphins that resulted in a damaged right ACL. Before the injury, he had already completed eight games with 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns, setting himself up for a career year.

Entering his ninth NFL season, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound Bourne played his first four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and the last three in New England. Bourne, an Eastern Washington native who was an undrafted free agent when he joined the NFL in 2017, has participated in 99 games throughout the regular season and has accumulated 264 receptions for 3,409 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Bourne stated to ESPN in February that he wanted to return home. That’s my objective. Being a Patriot makes me happy since it’s a terrific environment for someone like me. I’m grateful to the Patriots for helping me develop into the player I am today. I don’t want to miss the nice wave—the moment when you might be returning—because these past two years have been spent rebuilding. It was difficult, but you never know what can happen. Something positive seems to be entering that building, and I want to be a part of it. With almost $100 million in salary cap space to work with, the Patriots went into free agency hoping to re-sign several of their main players, including Bourne. Hunter Henry, a tight end, was previously re-signed by them to a three-year contract worth up to $30 million.
