Train collides with tour bus at WNC recreation center

The Great Smoky Mountains tourist train sounded its horn several times and rolled slowly through the center’s parking area, witnesses said.

 

Despite the warnings, the train proceeded across the railroad tracks and into the train’s path, according to the Smoky Mountain Times.

 

The center’s president told the Times that it was the first time an incident like this has happened in the history of the facility.

 

The Swain County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the collision, police said.

 

Sheriff Curtis Cochran said eight people on the bus were taken to the hospital with what he described as minor injuries. No one on the train was injured, h
