Ohio’s BEREA At the conclusion of their season, the Cleveland Browns made the decision to reorganize its coaching staff in order to complete staff assessments. A day after making the decision to let go of three employees, the process of filling those positions has already begun.

League sources confirmed to News 5 that the Browns fired running backs coach Stump Mitchell, opted not to keep tight ends coach T.C. McCartney, and parted ways with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt after the team’s loss to the Houston Texans.

A league source verified that the Browns promptly brought in Duce Staley for an interview for the same position in Cleveland in an effort to address the vacancies in the staff. Staley was a member of the Eagles coaching staff and a former NFL running back when they won Super Bowl LII.

Staley began his coaching career in 2011 and has worked with the Eagles, Lions, and most recently, the Panthers, as a quality control coach, running backs coach, and assistant head coach.

Ryan Crown, the outside linebackers coach for the Titans, has been granted permission to meet with the Browns for a defensive line position. Ben Bloom holds that position currently, however if he is kept, his role may change. In any event, the Browns are now handling the position; that has not been settled.

According to a league source, the Browns are interviewing offensive line coach Andy Dickerson of the Seahawks for the role of offensive coordinator. Dickerson was hired by Seattle in 2021 as the coordinator of the run game. Dickerson was previously employed by the Browns in 2009 as an assistant offensive line coach and in 2010 as a defensive quality control coach.

Dickerson has coached for the Patriots, Browns, Jets, Rams, and Seahawks since beginning his career in 2003 in Washington. He has spent the most of his NFL coaching career with the Rams, helping them advance to Super Bowl LIII.

In an effort to restructure their offensive and make a deeper postseason push in 2024, the Browns will wrap up these interviews and look at additional prospects.
