Report: Former 49ers LB Burks signing one-year, $2.5M Eagles contract
An NFC conference foe is gaining depth at linebacker for the 49ers.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Saturday that Oren Burks, a former linebacker for San Francisco, is inking a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, citing a source.
OREN BURKS, a former 49ers linebacker, is reportedly inking a one-year contract worth up to $2.5 million with the Philadelphia Eagles.
A star on special teams, Burks started five games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
Burks spent two seasons with San Francisco and was a valuable backup linebacker who also excelled on special teams. In the regular season, the 28-year-old replaced linebacker Dre Greenlaw for five starts. Later, in the Super Bowl LVIII defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, the standout linebacker sustained a torn Achilles.
The 49ers resorted to former Green Bay Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, who they allegedly will sign to a one-year contract, rather than Burks, to fill in next to All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner because Greenlaw was likely to miss the start of the 2024 NFL season.
Last season, Burks finished with 46 total tackles—three of which were for loss—one interception, one fumble recovery, and one sack in 15 games.
