MISSIVE EXPLOSION IN CAMINO: a minutes ago 3 teenagers found dead in massive explosion in CAMINO after fire break out on farm land police identified just now…
According to fire officials, at around 3:20 a.m. fire crews were dispatched to Kitemaug Road for a house fire. The house was located near an apple orchard.
When fire officials arrived, the majority of the wood-framed house was fully engulfed and a partial collapse was reported.
Firefighters had initial issues with getting water because the nearest hydrant is on Route 32 and a lot of hose had to be laid to reach it. Six tanker trucks helped on scene.
The deceased male was the sole occupant of the home, according to Montville fire officials.
While crews worked to extinguish the fire, they found him in a breezeway near the front door, which was part of the collapsed section of the home.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning. Officials don’t plan to release the man’s name until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identifies him.
The family is devastated. Obviously, our hearts go out to them, especially this time of year,” Montville Fire Marshal Paul Barnes said.
The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit is assisting the local fire marshal’s office with the investigation.
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, investigators could not yet say what caused the fire due to the damage being so extensive. However, they believe it started somewhere in the kitchen/living room area.
Fire officials say there is no evidence of arson.
Route 32 to Massapeag Road and Kitemaug Road was closed for most of the day as emergency crews responded.
