Report details fiery head-on crash that killed Odessa teens
CRANE COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Texas Department of Public Safety crash report has shed new light on a two-vehicle crash that left four people, including three Buena Vista ISD teens, dead Wednesday night.
According to that report, around 6:45 pm on November 20, troopers were called to FM 1053, about one and a half miles south of SH 329 in Crane County to investigate a fiery crash. At the scene, investigators found a 2024 GMC Sierra and a 2012 Jeep Wrangler involved in a head-on collision.
Troopers said the driver of the Sierra, identified as 48-year-old Gary Don Liles, of Odessa, was traveling southbound on FM 1053 while 18-year-old Jackie Jurado Perkins was traveling northbound in the Jeep. Jackie’s twin brother, Jaden Jurado Perkins, and their 16-year-old sister, identified by loved ones as 16-year-old Nautica Carrasco, were riding as passengers in the Jeep.
Investigators said both vehicles collided but have not yet determined what led to the crash. Upon impact, troopers said the Jeep caught fire and was fully engulfed when investigators arrived on the scene; all three teens died at the scene. Liles was taken to a hospital in Odessa where he also succumbed to his injuries and died.
