Despite a £155 million contract, Phil Mickelson receives a harsh reality check in LIV Golf…

At the most recent LIV Golf tournament, Phil Mickelson had a forgettable weekend, as he is still lagging behind longtime rival Tiger Woods off the course.

Following a terrible 10-over-par first round on Friday, which derailed the momentum he built from a sixth-place finish in Saudi Arabia a week earlier, Mickelson finished second-last in Hong Kong on Sunday. Although Mickelson did show improvement over the last 36 holes, the six-time major champion had a terrible weekend in the Far East as his final total of eight over was only higher than Zimbabwe’s Kieran Vincent.

The left-hander is trying a new putter and trying to find his game as his chances of winning another major championship wane ahead of his 54th birthday in June. However, he has had a frustrating start to the LIV season, placing tied for 51st and 30th in Mayakoba and Las Vegas to begin the year.

Regardless of how the rest of his career turns out, Mickelson can be happy with his accomplishments, but his aspirations of winning the US Open and a career grand slam remain unrealized. But off the course, Mickelson is still quite successful, ranking among the top athletes in terms of earnings in 2023.
