He said: “When I came off, the pain in my shoulder was my biggest concern. I distinctly remember the immense relief that washed over me when I saw the YAA team rushing to my aid; right then, I knew I was in safe hands!  My heartfelt gratitude goes out to everyone who played a part in saving me that day.”

Their next Championship fixture sees them face off with Bristol City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, October 19th.

There are then some tough meetings on the horizon against an unbeaten Sheffield United and Norwich City.

At present, Boro are on a mixed run of form that sees them sitting ninth in the Championship table going into the weekend’s action.

Middlesbrough lost 2-1 to Watford in their last outing and need to get back to winning ways against Bristol to keep their promotion push going.

But with the Teessiders already suffering an injury crisis this term, Michael Carrick should now look to some of his fringe first-team players in the coming weeks to ensure his squad stays at full strength.

With this in mind, Boro News have taken a look at three players the Middlesbrough manager should hand more opportunities to once club football returns at the weekend.

Middlesbrough’s midfield has looked pretty strong for most of this season thanks to the excellent displays of Hayden Hackney and Aidan Morris.

But with Boro now facing a hectic schedule, Carrick will need to rest the duo at some point in the near future.

Dan Barlaser is the current backup option but he has failed to impress during his time on Teesside.

In turn, Carrick should finally start to offer Law McCabe more of a prominent role in the senior team.

The 18-year-old has only made five senior appearances since his debut in 2023/24 but has already shown enough to highlight his massive potential.

Working in tandem with Head of Football Kieran Scott, Michael Carrick brought nine new faces through the door at the Riverside Stadium.

Eight of those additions have since become regular features for the first team, while Harley Hunt has largely lined out for Boro’s academy after his transfer from Swindon Town.

For the most part, the Teessiders summer transfer business was positive, with a number of players already shining in their limited outings in the North East.

However, the one mistake Scott and Carrick made over the summer was not signing more left-back cover.

Lukas Engel was shambolic for Middlesbrough versus Stoke City, costing his side a staggering four goals despite only being on the pitch for 45 minutes.

That was not the only time the left-back’s decision-making led to Boro conceding though, with Portsmouth taking full advantage of Engel’s struggles in a 2-2 draw in August.

With Alex Bangura facing another length spell on the sidelines, the Teessiders did eventually dip into the transfer market to strengthen that area with the addition of Neto Borges.

However, while there was much excitement around the Brazilian’s addition, Borges is already at risk of becoming a Middlesbrough flop.

The former Ligue 1 ace was dominated in the defeat to Sunderland was was similarly poor in the 2-1 loss to Watford prior to the October international break, with it now clear another left-back should have been signed over the summer.
