With Mike Vrabel going from respected HC to option and falling out of this year’s bullpen altogether, the potential rationale for the former Titans boss’ position is certainly important. Vrabel’s dated, intimidating style may have been the reason he didn’t get the job, and the GM went so far as to mention The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, it may even extend to his physical condition. The former NFL linebacker could also find himself a slightly older candidate, even at 48 than some owners wanted, Russini suggested during an appearance on The Athletic Football Show. Among the eight HC hires this year, only Jim Harbaugh (60) and Dan Quinn (53) were older. Vrabel interviewed with the Falcons, Panthers and Chargers for jobs.
A few teams have been interested in hiring Vrabel as a defensive coordinator, Russini adds, but the six-year NFL HC is not tied to any specific coordinator job. With not many DC jobs left, it looks like Vrabel will join Bill Belichick as coach this year. When Belichick turns 72 in April, Vrabel may have a better chance of landing the new HC job. However, he is out of the league at the moment. Reports of Vrabel clashing with Titans owners may have also affected his chances.

While praising Fangio’s old-school demands, Tyreek Hill also relayed rumors from others who have reported behind closed doors that the team’s 2023 DC wants to return to Philadelphia. Fangio, previously mentioned as rubbing someone the wrong way in Miami, is indeed back with the Eagles.
The Dolphins hired former Ravens D-line coach Anthony Weaver to replace him .As they prepare to hire Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator, the Saints will not extend Doug Marrone’s second stint with the team through 2024. Marrone will not be recalled to coach the Saints’ offensive line in 2022-23, New Orleans’ Nick Underhill tweeted . The Saints have veteran O-line coach John Benton to fill the slot, NOLA.com’s Luke Johnson adds. Benton, 60, would be a logical hire. He spent eight years as Gary Kubiak’s O-line coach in Houston and was the 49ers’ O-line coach under Kyle Shanahan from 2017-2020. After following Robert Saleh to New York in 2021, Benton spent last season away from football.
Former Falcons assistants Steve Jackson and Frank Bush are on Titans DC Dennard Wilson’s new staff, Turron Davenport tweets from ESPN.com. A former Texans DC and interim Jets DC, Bush spent three years as a linebacker coach with Arthur Smith’s Falcons. It’s a return trip for Jackson, who has a history with the franchise as a player and coach. Jackson, a former Oilers cornerback, finished his career with the Titans in Super Bowl XXXIV. He later served as a DB assistant coach under Mike Mularkey at Tennessee in 2016-17. Jackson spent the last two seasons with the Falcons.
Bills move senior defensive assistant Al Holcomb to coach. The former Panthers DC will replace Bobby Babich as Buffalo’s running backs coach, according to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. Babich is now Buffalo’s DC. Holcomb, who worked with Sean McDermott in Carolina, joined the Bills last year.
