Camino’s Mason Visman found dead day after Highway 50 crash
Authorities in El Dorado County say a body discovered along Highway 50 is believed to be that of a passenger involved in a DUI crash last week.
California Highway Patrol officers arrested a woman suspected of drunk driving in the crash Friday night along Highway 50 in El Dorado County.
The CHP said the arrested driver, Erica Chambers, didn’t tell investigating officers she had a passenger in her car. The passenger was found dead the following afternoon not far from the site of the vehicle crash.
Chambers, 35, of Camino remained in custody Tuesday evening at the El Dorado County Jail. The passenger who died was later identified as 34-year-old Mason Visman also of Camino, the CHP Placerville Area Office announced Tuesday in a news release.
The crash involving a Mercedes-Benz and a Toyota Prius was reported about 7:45 p.m. Friday along the westbound lanes of Highway 50, just west of Mosquito Road. The CHP said officers arrived and discovered the 2018 Mercedes driver, later identified as Chambers, had left the scene.
The CHP, with help from the Placerville Police Department, apprehended Chambers moments later near the crash scene. Investigators determined she had been driving under the influence of alcohol, the CHP said.
Calahan Baker, 35, of Shingle Springs was driving the 2008 Prius involved in the crash. He suffered minor injuries, the CHP said. He did not have any passengers with him.
Chambers did not tell the officers she had a passenger with her in the Mercedes during the crash, the CHP said. She was arrested and booked at the jail Friday night.
Shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, CHP officers were called to an area near Highway 50 and Mosquito Road for a report of a possible body found in the bushes on the other side of a guardrail.
Officers arrived and found the body of a man later identified as Visman by the El Dorado County Coroner’s Office. The CHP said that on Friday night nobody involved in the crash or witnesses said there was a possible passenger in the Mercedes.
“Additionally, at the scene, the investigating officer specifically asked Chambers if she was driving alone, and she indicated she was,” the CHP said in the news release.
Investigators asked anyone with information about this fatal crash to call the CHP Placerville Area Office a
