The Charlotte County Sheriff’s office is currently investigating a couple’s death on Turbak Drive in Punta Gorda.
Sheriff Bill Prummell provided an update on the investigation Friday evening on Facebook.
According to the Sheriff, his office began a missing person’s investigation on October 16 in reference to a Ronda Pope.
Pope’s family in Wisconsin became concerned after Hurricane Milton, that they had not heard from her.
Deputies went to the residence on Turbak Drive and found it all boarded up. They did not get a response from Ronda.
Detectives later went to the house and went inside and found Ronda and her boyfriend Scott Taylor inside deceased.
Around 7pm deputies closed down the street that is near HW 17 on the very north east side of Punta Gorda. It’s near Arcadia road north of Shell Creek.
We’ve reached out to the Sheriff’s office for more information. They say “The investigation is in its infancy and detectives are working as we speak.
According to Prummell, one of the deceased was Rhonda Pope, a woman who was reported missing after her family in Wisconsin raised concerns.
Pope’s family said they hadn’t heard from her since Hurricane Milton and CCSO began a missing person investigation on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
According to Prummell, Pope, who lived at the home, and her boyfriend Scott Taylor were found dead on Thursday evening.
Only residents have been allowed to go in or out of the neighborhood since the death investigation started.
Prummell said Taylor’s cause of death appears to be self-inflicted, while Pope’s is undetermined due to the state of decomposition.
The sheriff said this is an ongoing investigation.
