Following their Wednesday night Continental Tyres League Cup victory over Everton, City rose to seventh place in the WSL by adjusting to the pressure their manager placed on them to win the points.

Kirk acknowledges that his team had to put in a lot of effort to earn the three points, but it is Leicester’s first league victory since the rematch with the Toffees in October and provides them with a solid foundation going forward.

We should have given some of the work we did in the second half a little more focus. At the beginning of the half, Everton had a few good opportunities, but other than that, we handled it fairly well.

The Belgian international’s goal lifts her season total to five. Kirk was happy that she disregarded his counsel from the sidelines and called her a valuable member of the team because of her experience on the field.

The 45-year-old acknowledged, “I think everyone on the bench heard me say not to shoot (for Cayman’s goal).” To be honest, the angle had opened up and there was nothing standing between her and the goal, but that’s because we have a way of moving the ball rather than just taking chances from range.
