3 free agent: strikers Hull City must eye as 25-man squad list leaves vacancy

Hull City have left a couple of spaces open on their 25-man squad list for potential new additions, as detailed in a report by HullLive.

Hull City have the opportunity to bring in two more players if they wish to over the coming months, with one expected to be midfielder Steven Alzate on a free transfer following his summer exit from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Tigers are still light of options up front with Union Berlin loan man Chris Bedia and youngster Mason Burstow their only two senior options in that position. They weren’t able to bring in a new attacker on deadline day and are stuck with what they have at the moment, unless they snap up a free agent.

Tim Walter’s side were beaten 2-0 away at Leeds United last time out and face Sheffield United at home on Friday. In the meantime, here is a look at three unattached forwards they could target…

Maxi Gomez

Hull City were linked with him last year, as per a report by Turkish news outlet Sporun Dibi, but nothing materialised in the end. The 28-year-old is without a club at the moment and will be weighing up his options in the game.

Gomez, who has made 32 caps for the Uruguay national team, has played for Celta Vigo, Valencia and Trabzonspor in the past and would be an ambitious signing if the Tigers were able to get him. He spent time on loan at Cadiz in La Liga last season before becoming a free agent.

Kemar Roofe

He would give Walter more competition and depth up top if he was to make the switch to the MKM Stadium. The former West Brom, Oxford United and Leeds United man cut ties with Rangers at the end of the last campaign and officially became a free agent in late June.

Roofe is an experienced player who has racked up 327 appearances in all competitions to date, finding the net on 112 occasions. He has a big decision to make on where to go next at the age of 31 and wouldn’t be a bad acquisition for Hull City.

Freddie Ladapo

Ipswich Town parted company with him last month and he is now without a club. The 31-year-old spent the second-half of last term on loan at Charlton Athletic in League One to get some game time under his belt.

He made the move to Portman Road in 2022 from Rotherham United and helped them gain promotion to the Championship in his first year. The Londoner fired 25 goals in 75 outings for the Tractor Boys altogether and would give the Tigers something different if they decided to take a gamble on him.
