Cleveland Key Player Sustain Severe Injury Which May……..

The Cleveland Browns could be strong candidates in 2024, but if quarterback Deshaun Watson is prepared to make a small sacrifice, the team’s chances of making its first-ever Super Bowl trip will significantly increase.

With his restricted schedule and generally subpar performance in his on-field time during the previous two seasons, Watson’s $230 million fully-guaranteed contract is possibly the worst in the NFL. That argument may be made, in part, because it will make it more difficult for the front office to bring in talent when it comes to him, especially in the next three years when his salary cap hit will be just under $64 million yearly.

However, on Friday, January 26, Watson publicly urged Tee Higgins, a wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals, to accompany him in “The Land.” Watson mentioned that the squad plans to throw the ball more often in 2024 and emphasized his and Higgins’ shared Clemson connection.

On Sunday, though, Barry Shuck of SB Nation’s Dawgs By Nature pointed out the Browns’ awkward financial predicament—they are currently $20.5 million in the deficit.

“The problem is that Clemson isn’t paying the bills, and the Browns don’t appear to have any room to pay another high-priced player who had an off-year and was repeatedly injured,” Shuck wrote. “Then again, if Watson wants Higgins so badly, maybe he will renegotiate his contract and take less money so that the magic can happen.”

“You’re aware of our problems, man,” Watson remarked. “We intend to pass the ball and will do so frequently. You will be taken care of by us. We have ties to Clemson, and the Cleveland fans will adore you to the moon and back. Although we weren’t able to play together, now is our chance. Proceed to The Land now.

The next few weeks will reveal Watson’s level of commitment to obtaining Higgins, as it will not be easy to do so — particularly if the team plans to hold onto Nick Chubb and Amari Cooper, its top running back and wide receiver, respectively.

Higgins recently completed the last year of his $8.7 million, four-year rookie contract. According to Spotrac, he could fetch $74.4 million over the course of a new four-year contract.

Cooper is unlikely to get his walking papers after making his fifth Pro Bowl of the season. Given RB Jerome Ford’s 2023 breakout season, it might be easier for the Browns to let go of Chubb.

But maybe the franchise can sign a guy like Higgins and retain all of its best players for a 2024 playoff run if Watson is prepared to take a pay reduction.
