Hull City- give Tim Walter what he wants as Lewie Coyle’s ‘perfect’ strike earns point

City maintained their unbeaten start to the Championship with a 1-1 draw at Home Park

Tim Walter praised the character of his Hull City side after watching the Tigers fight back from a goal down at Plymouth Argyle to earn a 1-1 draw in the Home Park fervour, but felt his team spurrned a chance to go on and win the game.

City created a host of chances – and also saw plenty created against them – against an Argyle side who responded well to last week’s 4-0 thrashing at Sheffield Wednesday in Wayne Rooney’s first home league game in charge.

Having fallen behind to Ibrahim Sissoko’s strike early in the second half, City responded well and were level in style nine minutes later when Lewie Coyle ended a lung-bursting run with a thumping finish off the post.

Walter’s men finished strongly and could have won the game in the closing stages but were forced to settle for their second 1-1 draw of the season, after being held by Bristol City a week ago.

“We played like I want them to play. They (Argyle) waited a bit more to wait for our mistakes,” Walter told Hull Live. “After 10 minutes, we had a few in our game, but after 30 minutes, we tried to step in again. We went in again and tried to create but it was an open game.

“Until then, it’s more transition. That’s not what I like. We tried, especially in the half-time to make it a bit more patient and try to calm down and have more possession in our game. That’s what we tried to do and I also got it, but then unfortunately, we conceded the goal, but also, the reaction afterwards was brilliant.

“It was the perfect goal from Lewie. He drove over the whole pitch and that’s what I like to see. He did it from behind, dribbling inside playing a one-two (with Liam Millar) and then the perfect finish.”

City dominated much of the game after pulling themselves level, and though Ivor Pandur made a couple of crucial saves, the Tigers wasted some good moments in the final third, something which left Walter frustrated.

“You can’t draw it better and then we tried, it was still an open game. We tried to have more possession but in the end, we were in perfect situations, perfect positions, but we turned not forward, we turned back.

“That’s what we have to do better in the future. The lads, they know it because we talked about it. It’s just a process, getting better and better and therefore we need the games. We need more players to challenge ourselves, and that’s important.

“It’s not an easy game. Everywhere you go the same as home, it’s very competitive. We will make it because I’m very confident, and especially in my team, I’m very convinced in them, so that’s what we try to do for the next time (against Millwall).”
