Shelbourne’s Premier Division title hopes have been dealt a blow with Will Jarvis recalled from his loan by Hull City.

The 21-year-old netted nine goals and contributed six assists in 30 appearances after rejoining Damien Duff’s side in January, emerging as an integral player in table-topping Reds’ title bid.

Shels are currently three points clear of second placed Derry City but have played a game less than the Candystripes.

Shamrock Rovers are also 11 behind the Reds and have played a game less than them.

Jarvis scored and assisted twice in 12 matches during his first spell at Tolka Park in 2023, helping Shels secure a top-four finish and Conference League qualification.

The youngster has made four appearances for Hull – three in the Championship and one in the EFL Cup – with his most recent outing coming away to Luton Town in May 2023.

The Hull City academy graduate has enjoyed previous loan spells in non-league with hometown club York City and Scarborough Athletic, where he won promotion to National League North in 2021/22.

Jarvis made his last appearance on Monday night at Tolka Park as Shels drew 0-0 with title rivals Derry City.

Huge blow for Shels as Will Jarvis is recalled by Hull City

Shelbourne have been hit with a considerable blow for the title run-in as Will Jarvis has been recalled by parent club Hull City from his loan spell.

Jarvis signed for a second temporary spell with the Reds last January and was due to stay at Tolka Park for the remainder of the League of Ireland season.

But the Championship side have opted to invoke a release clause in the agreement.

The attacker has scored eight times this season and claimed the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month in March and June.

He was expected to be in the running for the Player of the Year award and a key man for Shels in their bid to land an unlikely league crown.

The Reds drew 0-0 with Derry City last night to maintain their three-point advantage at the top of the Premier Division table.

Mattie Smith is likely to see more game time with fellow striker Sean Boyd currently struggling with an injury problem.

Jarvis may now come into contention for Hull ahead of the start of the English Championship season this weekend.
