GM Releases- Fix For Chevy Silverado EV Rear Upper Control Arm Issue…

General Motors has released a Service Bulletin for the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV describing a fix for an issue affecting the rear upper control arms of certain units of the all-electric pickup.

Service Bulletin N242446820 describes a remedy for a condition in which the rear upper control arms of the affected Chevy Silverado EV trucks have incorrect torque on their control arm bolts. This condition was caused by the release of incorrect service torque specs.

No components are needed to fix involved units of the Chevy Silverado EV. GM instructs dealer service personnel to loosen and then retorque the rear upper control arm fasteners to the correct specifications. The remedy requires approximately half an hour to complete and is available free of charge up until the Silverado EV’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period expires.

GM notes that the fix must be applied both to customer vehicles brought in for service or other reasons, and to Chevy Silverado EV units currently in dealership inventory. The Global Warranty Management system should be consulted to ensure a specific vehicle is involved in the service bulletin action, with “Open” appearing on its Investigate Vehicle History screen.

It’s unclear at this time how many units are affected by the issue.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is offered in three trim levels, including 3WT, 4WT and range-topping RST First Edition. All variants are motivated by GM Ultium batteries and a dual GM Ultium Drive motor setup. The 3WT trim level’s powertrain cranks out 510 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, while the 4WT develops 515 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque and the RST First Edition has an output of 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque.

Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado EV is underpinned by the narrow-body variant of the GM BT1 platform. The narrow-body variant is also used by the GMC Sierra EV, whereas the wide-body configuration of the BT1 architecture provides structure for the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and GMC Hummer EV SUV.

Production of the electric pickup takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan. The Silverado WT’s MSRP starts at $68,895, while the RST First Edition is listed from $96,495. The EV’s official configurator is currently live.
