TRANSFERS: Hull City-Continue Talks For Leeds United And Sheffield United Target

Hull City are continuing to hold talks over a deal to sign a star who has also been linked with Leeds United and Sheffield United, according to journalist Darren Witcoop

The Tigers suffered a blow earlier this summer when losing Jaden Philogene to Aston Villa, while Jacob Greaves left for Ipswich Town and Ozan Tufan joined Trabzonspor.

Making signings is Hull’s focus to support new boss Tim Walter and they are continuing to show keen interest in Basel attacker Liam Millar.

Millar, who spent last term on loan at Preston North End, has been linked with both Sheffield United and Leeds United this summer.

Hull though are continuing talks with Basel in an attempt to win the race for the former Liverpool man.Millar made 35 appearances in the Championship for Preston last term, scoring five goals and providing five assists.

He scored in North End’s 2-1 win over Leeds at Deepdale.

Millar, 24, is now inside the final 12 months of his deal at Basel and they are prepared to let him go.

Hull City’s concerning pre-season friendly schedule ends in defeat to League One side Reading

The Tigers have lost four and drawn two of their six summer outings

Hull City’s winless pre-season came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at League One side Reading and once again, the performance raised more questions which need answering with just a week until the Championship season starts.

An encouraging first half from Walter’s men promised much, but their soft underbelly was apparent once again with Reading opening the scoring shortly before the break when the Tigers were caught in transition and Ben Elliott fired in against the run of play.

Oscar Estupinan should have levelled it up early in the second half when he headed a glorious chance wide from close range, and the Tigers were punished again when Sam Smith headed in Lewis Wing’s deep cross, City’s left yet again cut to ribbons.

Throughout pre-season, as the players have got to grips with Tim Walter’s philosophy, they’ve looked uncomfortable and far too open, which, in the Championship, will be exploited. City still need new arrivals, they need them quickly, and they need them to come in and make a difference.

It’s hard to see how City don’t struggle this season, but this is only pre-season, people will say results don’t matter so we have to believe things will click when the campaign gets going, and once we know how the squad will eventually look.

New signing Marvin Mehlem was thrust straight into the first XI with Ryan Longman the other change from Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Fiorentina as Ryan Giles and Jean Michael Seri both dropped to the bench.

In their final outing of the summer, the Tigers started brightly with new signing Mehlem at the heart of it. A swift break from right to left saw the German freed down the left but his clip to the back post was a tad too hard and landed on the roof of the net, that moment coming shortly after a neat exchange down the left involving him and Abdus, before his return ball looking for the Turkish international was a tad short.
