The Tigers want to sign the experienced defender but face competition from Rangers

Ambitious Hull City have launched a bid to sign Scotland international Scott McKenna after the defender left Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

McKenna is a player City have tracked throughout the summer campaign and it was initially thought the finances involved would be difficult, but they remain keen on bringing him to the MKM Stadium having held positive talks with the player and are hopeful a deal can be struck.

The dominant left-sided defender is seen as a natural replacement for Jacon Greaves who left City earlier this summer and joined Ipswich Town, leaving the Tigers short of cover.

McKenna, a 37-cap Scotland international who played for the Tartan Army during their disastrous Euro 2024 campaign in Germany earlier this summer, ended the season on loan at FC Copenhagen and came up against Manchester City in the Champions League, after joining the Danish outfit on loan from Forest where he played 15 times, including twice in the European Cup.

The vastly experienced former Aberdeen defender played 69 times for Forest in the Championship, playing a pivotal role in helping the City Ground club get promoted through the play-offs under Steve Cooper and went on to play 25 times in the Premier League for the Reds, before being allowed to move in January when he went to the Danish capital.

Has Dodge Done it Again? Fully Redesig
City know they must bring in reinforcements this summer, particularly having lost Greaves. Boss Tim Walter has just Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin as his senior central defenders, and little in the way of experienced cover.

Only Andy Smith and Stan Ashbee provide that cover, while there remains doubt that McLoughlin will be at the club by the time the August 30 deadline arrives with interest from home and abroad in the Irishman.

The club do remain in talks with League One side Wigan Athletic over highly-rated England youngster Charlie Hughes with sources indicating to Hull Live that they remain hopeful that an agreement can be struck.
