New Hull City Arrival Opens Up On His Relationship With Tim Walter as …

The Tigers are heading into their second week of a gruelling summer schedule

Filip Tapalovic says he is relishing the opportunity to be a part of English football as he prepares for life at Hull City following his appointment to Tim Walter’s backroom staff.

Tapalovic and Julian Hubner were both confirmed as new arrivals on Thursday joining Andy Dawson before Erbil Bozkurt was added to Walter’s team on Friday, replacing former goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson whose six-and-a-half-year stay came to an end last month.

Both Tapalovic, the former Croatian international, and Hubner, worked under Walter in his previous managerial role in Germany with Hamburg and admits being a part of a football-crazy nation like England was an opportunity too good to refuse.

“I’m very excited, very happy to be here and glad to be a part of Hull City. I’m looking forward to the season and starting the competition. England is a big football country. Football is life here,” Tapalovic said.

“We played against Tim when I was a coach in 1860 Munich and he was at Karlsruher – it was the first time we’d met each other. We did our UEFA Pro Licence course together and drove by train to the camp. We had a good team at Hamburg with Julian and I am happy we can continue working together.”

Like the Croatian, Hubner is also no stranger to Walter having been his long-term assistant boss for past decade: “It’s something special for me. It’s my first station not in Germany. It’s quite different but the people are so lovely. I am really happy and proud to be here.

“Ten years ago, I started with Tim in the Under-19s in Karlsruher. We were second in the league after Julian Nagelsmann and Hoffenheim played in a semi-final against Schalke. It was a fantastic experience.

“We have been friends since then. After some years, he asked me to join him in Hamburg – a fantastic time. Now I’m here and really looking forward to it.”

Bozkurt, meanwhile, quit MK Dons to link up with City, having previously worked with Wycombe Wanderers. Before that, he spent five years with the Tigers’ Championship rivals QPR.

“I’m delighted to be here and I’m looking forward to working with Tim, the staff and the lads,” Bozkurt continued. “After several conversations with the gaffer, it’s very clear what he expects from the goalkeepers and how important and involved they are going to be in our style of football, which myself and the goalkeepers are going to enjoy.

“It’s good to be working in the Championship again and even better to be part of a club like Hull City. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead with all the staff and helping the goalkeepers develop.”
