Saqlain’s comments came when he was building his all-time ODI XI.

Abbas is arguably the best batsman Pakistan has ever produced and Saqlain noted that he “ended many careers” and had a knack for dominating spinners.

The 76-year-old, nicknamed the Asian Bradman, represented Pakistan in 78 Tests and scored 5,062 runs, which included 12 centuries and 20 fifties, at an average of 44.79.

He also featured in 62 ODIs and accumulated 2,572 runs, which included seven hundreds and 13 half-centuries, at an average of 47.62.

“On fifth I would bring our Zaheer Abbas. I think it was Sir Richards who said ‘If you could give me Abbas’ wrists, then I would score so many runs that you can’t even imagine’. He has ended many careers and especially beating spinners was his trait,” Saqlain was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan team recently played a five-match T20I series against New Zealand and a three-match T20I series against Ireland, which ended as a 2-2 draw and 2-1 in favour of the men in green respectively.

Currently, Pakistan are facing England in a four-match T20I series and find themselves 1-0 down.

Afterwards, they will be in action in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will take place in the West Indies and United States of America from June 1 to 29.

Pakistan’s first T20 World Cup game will be against the United States of America in Dallas on June 6.
