Bate is going out on loan from Elland Road once more, having spent time at League One Oxford United the previous season. The former Chelsea player has primarily participated in this season’s Leeds Under-21 campaign; he hasn’t been called up to a senior matchday squad since August. Daniel Farke, the manager of the first team, has already authorized loan deals for Luke Ayling and another U21 midfielder Darko Gyabi this month; they will be joining Plymouth Argyle and Middlesbrough, respectively. In addition, Djed Spence’s season-long loan was terminated early. Bate reports to Mike Williamson’s Bedfordshire squad, where he will be met by Max Dean, a former Leeds striker who signed a long-term deal to join the team that is presently seventh in League Two, in January.

The 21-year-old midfielder has only made one first team appearance for the Whites this season, coming off the bench in the Carabao Cup triumph over Shrewsbury Town at Elland Road, according to an official club statement released on Friday night. “With his team currently in a play-off position in the league, he now goes to work under Mike Williamson at the Sky Bet League Two club.” “Everyone at Leeds United would like to wish Lewis the best of luck during his :me away from the club.”
