HONESDALE – Longtime local educator and community theater actor William Doherty died late Monday night in a Honesdale house fire. He was 74.

According to local fire officials, the first call went out at 10:52 p.m. Monday and Honesdale volunteer fire companies responded within minutes.

The house at 256 Erie St. was already fully involved. Pennsylvania State Police, Cottage Ambulance, Honesdale Borough Police, Honesdale’s Department of Public Works and PennDOT were all on hand to assist on a frigid night.
