HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A six-year-old girl is among a family of three who were killed Monday night after a multi-car wreck along the Highway 17 Bypass.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said the child, Maria Eduarda Lucas De Souza, died along with Jean Carlos Porfirio de Aquino, 26, and Kamyla Lucas de Aquino, 30.
Jean and Kamyla were originally from Brazil, and the family recently arrived to the area from Hyannis, Mass., McSpadden said.
Four people were hurt in the wreck, which remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. on Highway 17 Bypass at Wood Thrush Drive, according to Cpl. David Jones.
A 2007 Ford Crown Victoria was driving north on Highway 17 with four people in the vehicle. A 2022 Kia four-door was pulling out from a private drive, attempting to cross the highway, when it was struck in the side by the Ford.
Two of the people inside the Kia died on the scene. The third person in the car was taken to the hospital, where they later died.
