The teenager, named locally as Reece Tansey, was attacked in Walker Avenue shortly before 4.45am. He knocked on the door of a nearby house to ask for help and was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.
Darragh will be sadly missed by his mum Maeve, his dad Ian, his brother, sister, grandparents and extended family and friends.
The Donegal community have been left heartbroken with the news and many have paid tributes to the young boy on social media.
Donegal Online wrote on Facebook: “The communities of Milford & Inver were left reeling yesterday day & today with the news of the unexpected death of Darragh Steve Gallagher, Cinema House, Convent Road, Milford.”
Local GAA club Clg Ard An Ratha said: “We extend our deepest sympathy to the extended Gallagher family of Meengilcharry on the sudden death of little Darragh Steve.
