One person is dead after a large fire erupted at a home in the 200 block of River Loop 2 in the Santa Clara Neighborhood in Eugene early Monday.
Eugene Springfield Fire Officials said dispatch received reports around 1:30 a.m. of multiple explosions and a fully involved house fire.
Firefighters’ search of the building was hindered due to extreme heat conditions. The fire attack turned into a defense operation.
Once the fire was under control, firefighter personnel confirmed a person was found dead inside the building. Their identity is being withheld at this time pending notification to their family.
Due to the fire, River Loop 2 was closed for hours from Scenic Drive to Shannon Street, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Motorists were advised to use an alternate route.
ESF said the fire is under investigation and Lane Fire Authority would provide further updates.
