Mathieu van der Poel victorious at first attempt on return to cyclocross

Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus) emerged victorious on his return to cyclocross after a year dominated by his breakthrough on the road scene.

The two-time cyclocross world champion hit the front for the second half of the race and held off his rivals to cross the finish line 23 seconds ahead of Laurens Sweeck (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) at the Telenet Superprestige Ruddervoorde.

Saint Piran announced on Tuesday evening that they would cease to exist ahead of the 2025 season after a “tough” year in which the “stars did not align” for the Cornwall-based squad.

It is understood that only a select few personnel were given advanced warning of the decision from the team’s senior management. Others only learned that they would not be employed for the upcoming season when reading the statement which was put out on social media
