One person is dead and several others are injured after a wrong-way crash on northbound U.S. 95/I-11 in east Las Vegas Friday morning.
The crash was reported around 2:52 a.m. on the freeway just north of Boulder Highway, said Trooper Shawn Haggstrom with Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol.
A vehicle was heading south in the northbound travel lanes when it crashed into another car, Haggstrom said.
A passenger in the wrong-way car, identified as an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified her as 18-year-old Marilyn Rodriguez of Las Vegas.
Several others were taken to an area hospital.
No other details on the crash have been disclosed. Haggstrom said further information would be released following the preliminary investigation.
All northbound lanes of U.S. 95 were closed at Boulder Highway for several hours Friday. The freeway has since reopened.
Las Vegas Boulevard was shut down in both directions in the north valley for hours after a rollover crash near the intersection at Walnut Road, according to Metro police.
Police said a deadly crash happened just after 12 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say 22-year-old Michael Garcia was the driver of a 2004 Toyota Corolla driving south on Las Vegas Boulevard when he drove onto the rock median, lost control, overturned, and slid into an oncoming Kia Soul.
The passenger in Garcia’s car, a 19-year-old woman, and the driver of the Kia were rushed to UMC Trauma. The 19-year-old woman died from her injuries. Police are not releasing her name at this time.
The driver of the Toyota, Garcia, remained at the scene with minor injuries. and did not show any signs of impairment.
This deadly crash marks the ninth traffic-related death in Metro’s jurisdiction so far in 2022.
All seven passengers of a van that was struck Saturday afternoon in North Las Vegas by a speeding car were killed in the crash, officials said this evening.
The six-vehicle crash happened just after 3 p.m. at Cheyenne Avenue and Commerce Street when a Dodge Challenger heading north on Commerce ran a red light and collided with several vehicles, police said.
Nine people were killed, including both occupants of the Dodge Challenger, police said.
In the van, four juveniles and three adults were killed, officials said.
“We had an unprecedented loss of life that happened yesterday in our community,” North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee said this evening at a news briefing. “It was a tragedy. It was beyond sad. Each of these people was a relative, a husband, a wife, a child, a valued member of our community.”
The Clark County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased passengers of the van as: North Las Vegas residents Fernando Yeshua Mejia, 5; Adrian Zacarias, 10; Lluvia Daylenn Zacarias, 13; Bryan Axel Zacarias, 15; Gabriel Mejia-Barrera, 23; David Mejia-Barrera, 25; and Jose Zacarias-Caldera, 35.
The driver of the Dodge was Gary Dean Robinson, 59, of North Las Vegas, and the passenger in the car was identified as Tanaga Ravel Miller, 46, of North Las Vegas.
In all cases, the cause of death was blunt force injuries, the Coroner’s Office said.
Acting North Las Vegas Police Chief said speed was the cause of the crash. Officials didn’t say how fast the car was traveling, noting the National Transportation Safety Board will assist with the investigation starting on Monday.
A total of 15 people were involved in the crash, and one remains in serious condition at University Medical Center, officials said.
“We mourn you today,” North Las Vegas Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown said.

Nevada reported 382 traffic fatalities last year, an 18% increase over 2020’s total and the deadliest stretch in 14 years.
