York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. said 23-year-old Patrick Smith was driving a dirt bike in the westbound direction in the eastbound breakdown lane. King said Smith was wearing a helmet when he hit a car that was pulling into the rest area. Smith was thrown from the dirt bike and transported to the Maine Medical Center in critical condition, deputies said.

The driver of the car, Audrey Godeck, was alone in her vehicle and uninjured in the crash.

That crash remains under investigation.

Around 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to another motorcycle crash near Ross Corner Road and Gulf Road in Shapleigh.

Deputies said it appeared Lisa Pimpare lost control of her motorcycle and was ejected from it.

Pimpare, who was wearing a helmet, injured her leg and received cuts to her legs and arms.

She was transported to Goodall Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, deputies said. Officials said inexperience appears to be a factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted Shapleigh Fire and Rescue.

Later in the day, York Deputies responded to a crash near 644 Limerick Rd. in Arundel.

Sheriff King said Roger Scannell went off the road, hitting several mailboxes before striking a tree.

He was brought to Southern Maine Medical Center for cuts to his legs and chest pains. Preliminary analysis of the crash appears to be driver fatigue.
