BAD DEPARTURE: penrith panthers captain Nathan Cleary just made it very clear to the team as he announced his departure today give reasons that ..

Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary has shut down rumours of a potential move to the Super League during the competition’s grand final on Sunday morning (AEDT).

The four-time premiership winner was on deck at Old Trafford to watch close friend Tyrone May play for Hull KR, who fell short against Wigan in the decider.

In the wake of Penrith’s grand final win over the Storm, speculation has been mounting that Cleary could leave the NRL in order to be closer to his girlfriend Mary Fowler, who is plying her trade for Manchester City.

When quizzed on the rumours during the Super League broadcast, the 27-year-old laughed it off and confirmed his commitment to the Panthers.

Not any time soon to be honest,” he said.

“I’ve seen all the rumours, but it is nice to get to come over here and see her play, which is nice to just have a break.

“I won’t be moving over here any time soon.”

Cleary’s comments come just days after Panthers boss Brian Fletcher revealed his plans to lock down the champion halfback, as well as his father and head coach Ivan, to the powerhouse club long-term.

“I hope they’re knocking on my door next week so we can get them out to 2030 at least – or while ever they’re walking we’ll sign them until,” he told 9news Sydney.

At this stage, the pair are signed for another three years at the foot of the Mountains.

The speculation was sparked due to the fact his partner, Australian football star Mary Fowler, plays in the UK for Women’s Super League side Manchester City. It has perhaps unsurprisingly led to suggestions Cleary could continue his rugby league career in England in order to be closer to Fowler.

However, that speculation was put to bed, with the Panthers adamant that Cleary has never declared he would be keen for a move to England.

And the Australia international was in attendance at the Super League Grand Final on Saturday evening having travelled over to England to spend time with Fowler, having been spotted wearing a Hull KR shirt at Old Trafford in support of his friend and former Panthers team-mate Tyrone May.
