Gatton teenager Connor Edgerton regrets racing his mate and doing a wheelie on a motocross bike after crashing last Friday (September 20).
The 14-year-old Ma Ma Creek resident was at a Boondooma off-road motocross park racing on a Honda CRF-250 along a mostly flat track.
The impact of the crash caused a fractured collarbone and multiple bruised ribs.
“I started wheeling it, and I had control over it,” Connor said.
“And then my mate crossed in front of me, and I thought ‘I had better slow down’ and then I accidently hit the throttle and that threw me off the bike.
“My parents weren’t impressed with my stupidity.”
The Bundaberg-based LifeFlight helicopter crew landed at the park and critical care doctor Victoria Burrell, flight paramedic Michael Branch and local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated Connor.
His grandparents met him at the Bundaberg Hospital where he was under observation for a few hours.
“I was pretty grateful to go in the helicopter because I was in a lot of pain,” Connor said.
“And the car trip would have been awful because the roads are really rough and bumpy out there.
“The LifeFlight crew were really, nice. They took some photos for me. I’ve never been in a helicopter before.”
It was the 10th time LifeFlight crews responded to a motocross accident this year.
