One person died and another was injured after a boating incident on Lake Cumberland early Saturday. Russell County Deputy Coroner Tanya Womack said the boat hit a rock wall, and Anthony Williams, 36, of Lexington, died as a result of injuries he sustained. Russell County Search and Rescue said they were called to “a reported boating accident on the lake near Cemetery Island” at about 1:30 a.m.
Chris Casey isn’t sure if a seal or some dolphins set off a series of events that might have killed him, but it all occurred so quickly, and he ended himself in the drink. He is here to share his tale of surviving at sea because of a combination of good fortune and a few wise choices made amidst a string of poor ones. When Casey realized he couldn’t get back into his overturned kayak and found himself drifting in Wellington Harbour in the waning light of a late fall afternoon with his life jacket torn and no way to phone for help, he said, “This could be curtains.” His mind shifted to his spouse and their two adolescent daughters.
