Hull City new boy Charlie Hughes has confirmed he is back on the training pitch.
Hull City‘s centre-back has taken to Instagram (via X) to report he is ‘back on the grass’ after having his appendix removed. He is yet to feature for the Championship side since his switch from Wigan Athletic last month.
Hughes, 20, has endured a frustrating start to life in East Yorkshire and the Tigers have a decision to make on when to throw him into the side. His immediate focus will be getting back up to full speed after his absence.
He was signed to bolster their defensive department and will look to get into Tim Walter’s starting XI ahead of Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin, who have played in every game so far this season. Youngster Andy Smith also provides back-up to that position but he has also been out injured over recent times.
Hull City selection latest
Once he is available, Hughes will provide Hull City with another option to pick from in defence.
He signed for the Tigers in mid-August and penned a four-year deal at the MKM Stadium, with the club holding the option for a fifth.
He said at the time, as per their website: “I’m delighted. It’s great to be here and I’m really excited to get going. It’s a great feeling. I was at Wigan for a long period of time, which I loved, but now I’m really looking forward to being back in the Championship. I’m ready to push on now and I can’t wait to get started and develop.
Hughes was on the books at Liverpool and Manchester City before linking up with Wigan Athletic.
He then broke into the Latics’ first-team and went on to play 76 games in all competitions, chipping in with five goals from the back.
